trusty-backports has lxc 2.0.1 as well.

I doubt that anybody would spend time helping you debug old version, when
the fix is probably already available in current version.

I'd also look at your generated container config files though, and compare
good vs bad. There was one time I had a puzzling error, and turns out I
included the same config (files from /usr/share/lxc/config/*.conf) twice
(one included by the template, the other I manually added). Might be the
same problem for you.
