Most lists use pipermail, so you can simply download and cat them
together:

    http://code.haskell.org/~twb/Preferences/.bin/pipermail

For sf.net, you can't do that.  So I tend to use gmane, which allows you
to access the old history in a newsreader.  It's not mutt, but it's
better than the web UI.
