[lxc-users] Howto manually extract lxc/lxd template .rootfs files exactly ?

Hi,

i spend some time violating the searchengine howto extract the .rootfs
files from the template folder within LXD/LXC.

Tar claims its no tar.
Its no cpio eighter.
Its no xz nor gzip nor what ever else.

So how exactly can i extract this .rootfs files to get the files that
will be extracted when lxc init or launch runs ?
