Remember the L2 switch configuration I mentioned earlier? That is normal.
The only time you need to have an IP address on the host bridge is if you
want the host to communicate directly to the containers. But if you have an
external router (e.g. 192.168.18.1, which can also connect to
192.168.17.0/24), then your host can still communicate with the container,
even when the host itself does not have an IP address in 192.168.18.0/24.
