Speaking strictly as someone who first tried lxc for real yesterday:
lxc is probably best used directly unless you also need to control
heavier-weight VMs, in which case libvirt might be useful.

The libvirt + lxc combination still needs some work.  It has fewer
users so it seems to be progressing slower, but it will inevitably get
the polish it needs once lxc itself becomes more widely used.
