I recommend you upgrade to 10.04 LTS and try again.  9.10 will be
end-of-lifed by Canonical in three months, after which time there will
be no security patches released for 9.10.

(10.04 LTS packages receive support until 2013 or 2015, depending on
whether they're considered "server" packages.)
