In the meantime I received an answer from both Mike and Frederic, and
both have no objections to getting this upstream.

lxc-create can create a container in one go, but I am not sure which
options you can give it, so maybe creating the config, tweaking it and
then handing it to lxc-create is still a valid use case. If so, this
script could be included upstream.
